SSAA Tasmania Inc. Riddell Range Complex

 

General rules

 

1. All shooters must report to the clubroom/range office on arrival, sign-in and pay fees. You must

present your current Firearms Licence, permit or exemption and club or state affiliation (where

relevant) card when signing-in.

 

2. The Designated Range Officer is in complete control of the range at all times. Any direction in

accordance with the law and/or rules of SSAA must be followed immediately.

 

3. All other persons must report to the clubroom / range office on arrival and sign the attendance

register.

 

4. There is to be no shooting on any range unless under the authority of a Range Officer.

 

5. With the exception of a range officer, no person shall at any time touch any equipment not belonging to them without the consent of the owner.

 

6. Persons under 12 years old must always be under the supervision of a responsible adult when on-site

 

7. Smoking is prohibited within 10 metres of any sporting activity on the site and within 3mt of any

buildings on the site.

 

8. Anyone determined by a club official to be under the influence of alcohol or drugs will not be

permitted to handle firearms.

 

9.Skateboards, rollerblades, scooters, bicycles and other similar equipment are not permitted to be user within 5m of any structures on the Complex.

 

10. Leashed dogs are permitted on the grounds but are not permitted in the buildings unless they are authorised assistance dogs. The owner must remove any waste from the range complex.

 

11. No unauthorised person is to handle firearms within the complex.

 

12. All potentially hazardous situations must be reported immediately to a Range Officer.

 

13. The use of ear and eye protection is strongly recommended.

 

14. Firearms must not be left unattended at any time unless under the supervision of a holder of a licence of the appropriate category to that firearm.

 

15. It is prohibited to injure wildlife in any way.

 

16. Shooters should wear enclosed footwear on all firing lines.

 

Shooting range rules

 

1. No firearm may be loaded until the Shooter is in place at the firing line and directed to do so by a Range Officer.

 

2. At all times, while loaded, the firearm shall point down range.

 

3. At all times, while loaded, the firearm shall be under the control of the user.

 

4. When not at the firing line, the firearm must be unloaded at all times.

 

5. On the "Cease Fire" call, the firearm must be immediately unloaded.

 

6. No person on the firing line shall touch a firearm whilst any other person is forward of the firing line

 

7. All safety rules relevant to the event being conducted shall apply and be adhered to by all shooters.

 

8. All malfunctions must be reported immediately to the Range Officer.

 

9. No person shall go forward of the firing line without gaining permission from the range officer.

Wearing a high visibility vest or shirt (at minimum) is recommended beyond 200m

 

10. All shooting is to be in accordance with the range approval.

 

Longarms (excluding shotguns)

 

1. To ensure the safety, and prevent the function of rifles when not in use, an ECI (Empty Chamber Indicator) must be correctly inserted. If an ECI is not available, the bolt must be removed or an alternative must be applied as approved by the Range Officer. (Air Rifles excepted)

 

2. When not on the firing line or in use, all firearms must be either bagged, cased or be carried with

their muzzle elevated in a safe direction

 

3. No firearms are to be removed from the firing line unless cleared as safe by the Range Officer or their delegate

 

4. Muzzle brake firearms are only to be used in specified areas as approved by the Range Officer.
